NDEO 2024 Annual Conference Highlights

It was an honor to participate in the National Dance Education Organization’s Annual Conference this past October in Bellingham, Washington. I was grateful for the opportunity to present three workshops and to engage with an inspiring community of dance educators from across the country.

Workshop Presentations:

  • Embodied Reflective Practice in Teaching: Moving from the Center
This session shared the findings from my doctoral pilot study, exploring how embodied reflection can deepen teaching practice.

  • Cross-Cultural Dance & Aesthetic Education Teacher Training in China
Co-presented with Jiyaue Guo, this session highlighted our international teacher training initiative introducing creative dance practices to educators in China.

  • DEL: Cultivating Best Practices in Online Learning
Co-presented with Erin Lally, this workshop examined innovative approaches to virtual dance education, grounded in the Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) model.

A true highlight of the conference was witnessing the UMass Amherst Dance Education students present their original workshop on Civics Literacy and Dance. These future educators developed and implemented a curriculum for 5th-grade students in Amherst Public Schools, integrating civic themes through movement with clarity, creativity, and confidence.
