Celebrating 30 Years of DEL

Celebrating 30 Years of DEL at 92nd Street Y

It was such a joy to celebrate 30 incredible years of the Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) at 92nd Street Y alongside DEL Founder Jody Gottfried Arnhold. We began the anniversary with a special workshop that brought together dancers and dance educators from across the tri-state area, creating a space full of energy, curiosity, and connection.

During the session, we revisited one of Jody’s timeless DEL lesson plans—a sneak peek from a forthcoming book of 30 DEL lessons to be released later this year. Together, we reconstructed our original workshop, The Storm Dance, weaving history and innovation as participants explored movement, collaboration, and creative expression. It was a beautiful reminder of how dance can be both a personal journey and a shared experience.

Later, attendees joined us for a live talkback, where we reflected on DEL’s history and legacy, shared stories from our early days, and imagined what the future of dance education could hold. The conversation was thoughtful, inspiring, and full of the kind of curiosity that has always driven DEL’s work.

The day concluded with a joyful reception, honoring three decades of DEL’s inclusive, transformative, and heart-driven approach to dance education. It was a celebration of lineage, creativity, and the power of dance to connect us all.
