NDEO 2025: Dancing Through History, Reflection, and Collaborative Choreography
At the 2025 NDEO Annual Conference in Detroit, I had the honor of leading two workshops that invited educators to dance through history, reflection, and the power of collaborative choreography.
I joined DEL Founder Jody Arnhold to celebrate 30 years of the Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) program in “A Storm is Brewing!”—a pre-intensive that revisited and reimagined the very first DEL workshop we taught together in 1995. Using the DEL Dance Framework, we explored exploration, discovery, collaborative composition, and dance literacy, culminating in a fresh, community-driven iteration of the iconic Storm Dance. The room vibrated with a shared purpose as we embodied the transformative power of dance as a force for activism, expression, and social change.
I also shared my recent doctoral research in my workshop “Reflect, Restore, Re-envision – Pedagogy of Care in Teacher Education,” where I presented insights from my dissertation study on transformative learning and multimodal reflective practice. Through cycles of free writing, improvisational poetry, and personal and collaborative movement-making, participants experienced a holistic approach to supporting dance educators’ wholeness and professional identity.
Both sessions served as living invitations: to honor our lineage, nourish ourselves, and continue shaping dance education that is compassionate, creative, and deeply human.
